Bullying & Beyond…1.Take Heart!

20180708_110930
Time and the right conditions not only preserve but bring about something of beauty – Marie Clancy.

I’m not a professionally qualified counsellor or expert on bullying but I am a mother who has gained knowledge and experienced of bullying through the lives of our two children.

I have as part of my Degree in Adult Education studied the Psychology of Adult Education and Counselling in Adult Education and found both of these extremely helpful in understanding and coping with the situation we found ourselves in.

Our journey through bullying and its after effects spanned two decades (2002 to 2018) and as a result I’d like to offer my support to other parents who struggle with the impact of bullying on their children.

In these posts I’ll try to share some insights we’ve gained. My first…

1.  TAKE HEART.

If your child is suffering the effects of bullying and if it is having a negative impact on every member of your family, try to remain calm and show a capable front.  I know how upset you feel.  I know that the last thing you can comprehend is that it will all work out just fine.  But trust me… with determination to support your child, and by practicing self-care, you will reach a place of peace and progression!

I know because we were there and now we’ve reached that place of peace and progression and learned a lot as a result.  My son summed up his journey through bullying in a nice quote;  you can read about it here…Bullying…”I am grateful for it all”…

I hope you find this helpful. And I hope to write more on the subject of bullying.

Have you or your children experienced bullying?  Is bullying still an issue for you or have you reached a place of peace and progression? Please feel free to share your experiences, it could help inform other parents, provide comfort or encourage somebody else through the distress of bullying.

Much love,

Marie xx

Just one Minute Monday…Open!

Open up your mind at every opportunity! Something’s right there in front of you waiting to be seen!

Just One Minute Monday…Trust!

20181016_082709
Even the morning sun takes time to reach everything!

Just trust that the things you don’t reach on today are not necessarily vital things and that the people you don’t reach on today will understand and continue to appreciate you just as you are.

Much love,

Marie xx

Just look at how resilient you are, holding strong to the very last.   But don’t be afraid to let go…  Letting go also takes strength!

Sing your ‘Song’!

via Daily Prompt: Song

I’m always amazed by the talent and creativity of song writers.  They have the ability to lift our spirits and transport us to the most amazing and far away places without leaving the confines of our kitchen or car.  Their lyrics tell inspiring stories that teach us a wide variety of lessons.

Bloggers also have the power to lift others with their words.  When we write from our hearts we can say something that speaks to others.  It can resonate with what somebody is experiencing at that very moment.  When we take a few moments to comment on someone’s blog, to compliment a wonderful post or share words of encouragement we can have a positive impact on somebody else’s life. I believe we can provide the motivation somebody needed just at that very moment. Maybe it can be the song their heart needed to hear!

I know one thing for sure, your comments and feedback often makes my heart sing… such as,

“That’s an amazing story! Inspiring!”

…thank you Proftombot

Or

“You know what I think Marie? I am glad you are in the club, because not only can you share what you love, but you embody love and kindness, which might pass to one person. Hugs my friend.”

…thank you Donna @ https://windkisses.com

Or

Marie, I love how you write “My illness does not define me as a person.” So powerful. And empowering! The way you share your challenges, gives me perspective about my own. You are teaching us all. And for that, I will always be grateful. (This is who you are! A teacher. A writer. A muse.) Andrea xo

‘The best gifts we have to give…’

20180407_234357
A life changing book.

I now know what I did not know back then, back in the summer of 2016, when I first tentatively decided to put my thoughts and words out there by creating a blog; I now know that I was looking for something more in my life, I was searching for a sense of purpose, I was unfulfilled and lonely.

Starting my blog, Create Space, has made a difference to my life.  Being part of our online community, reading other blogs and sharing some of my writing whether from the daily prompt or other random ideas has helped me to find my voice; a voice that I now know was silenced because of the bullying endured by both our children.  Blogging has helped rebuild my confidence while also building my writing practice.  It has helped me realise, thanks to all the bloggers I’ve connected with in the comments section, that all of us have so much to offer each other!

Over the next few posts I would like to share quotes and writing tips from one of the most influential and informative books on writing that I have read, that book is…

 ‘Writing Alone and with others.’

Pat Schneider says,

‘We are all connected to one another and to the mystery at the heart of the universe through our strange and marvelous ability to create words.  When we write, we create, and when we offer our creation to one another, we close the wounds of loneliness and may participate in healing the broken world.  Our words, our truth, our imagining, our dreaming, may be the best gifts we have to give.’

If you are looking for something more in your life, searching for a sense of purpose, feeling unfulfilled and lonely then reach out, blog, share the best gifts you have to give and connect with others!

20180407_234513
Pg. Xvii, Pat Schneider said…’If I were this book’s reader, I would write in the margins, underline what I liked, and argue with the author where I disagree. I’d mark favourite exercises with a star, so I could find them again…’ Well I guess I did exactly as Pat suggested to my well read book!

Much love,

Marie xx

Daily Prompt: Betrayed by Self?

via Daily Prompt: Betrayed

Betrayed…To show (something, such as a feeling or desire) without wanting or trying to.

Have you ever felt betrayed?
How many times have you felt betrayed?…
not by others…but by yourself?

How can you tell if you’ve betrayed yourself?

Have you ever dismissed how you look?
Have you ever denied yourself rest?
Have you ever trashed your writing?
Have you ever compared yourself to others?
Have you ever believed your negative self-talk?

20160206_115506
Look deep into your soul…identify examples of self-betrayal

Well now that you’ve thought about it and gathered some evidence, pause and examine your self-betrayal!

You don’t deserve to be mistreated, you deserve respect and to get it from others you have to get it from yourself first!

Stand up to your inner bully…
reveal, uncover, expose and “embrace the infinity that is your true self!” (thanks TheBlackHobbit, https://theblackhobbit.wordpress.com for your excellent comment.)

Much love,

Sampling…

Our daughter is called Emma and I have learned a lot from being a parent to her and her brother.  Likewise the recent Storm ‘Emma’ which saw us trapped; although thankfully forewarned by MET Eireann, in our home for three days has also taught me a lot.  It thought me how time is relative.  It taught me that if I slow down, time slows down.  It taught me how to Savor time…let me try to explain.

How often do you stop when you are cooking and savor the dish you are preparing? If you are anything like me, you probably stop at each stage of the cooking process. You wonder if the dish is good enough. You take time to sample it and you consider the taste. You ask yourself is it tasty enough? You wonder can you enhance its flavour a little more?

Similarly I believe, if we pause at any given moment in our day and apply the same strategy we can sample and really taste the beauty of that moment! Better still we have the power within us, to enhance the beauty of our moment, our lunch time, our day.

Create space in your life and make this moment ‘your’ moment. Pause and sample this moment in time. Let everything else wait…. just breathe… just be… listen to everything and everyone around you. Be still… be aware of yourself; breathing, sensing, existing, thriving in this very moment. Notice time slowing down; pausing with you.

Stay with the moment and watch yourself living in ‘your’ moment, as if you were a kindly friend looking on, observing. Acknowledge with gratefulness your presence in ‘your’ moment. Appreciate your place in the beauty of ‘your’ moment…savor its stillness. Promise to visit and sample ‘your’ moment again soon… it will get easier… now with renewed spirit and a sense of childlike wonder return to the job in hand!

What will you sample today? What moment will you call ‘your’ moment?

20180304_201108
I noticed this little egg arrived with two little dots or bumps attached to its shell…to me they looked like ‘eyes’… I paused to Savor the possibilities…

I would love to hear your experience!

Much love,

Marie

Life gets messy…

via Daily Prompt: Messy

Life gets messy when you don’t say what you mean and mean what you say!

Learn to say ‘No’ when you want to say ‘No’

Learn to say ‘Yes’ with a generous heart!

Much love,

Marie xx

Ps. When the snow got messy and trapped us in for three days… I had no difficulty saying ‘Yes’ to Emma’s tasty creations!
