Monday’s Memory Lane…2. Measure

Welcome to Monday’s memory lane where I share an old post…

20180805_080643
Let your dreams soar…unmeasured!

In this post I considered the word “Measure”…

A common noun, a thing, a word with a lot of meanings such as the size or quantity of something. It can also mean a unit of size or quantity, such as the size of our home or the quantity or amount of friends we are blessed with. Measure can also mean extent, the range over which something extends; its area, such as the ground our home covers or the extent to which we can depend on our friends or them on us. Measure can also mean action taken, law or even be applied to poetry as poetical rhythm.

So if one word can have so many meanings and mean so many different things, surely, that’s all the more reason to be measured in the words we use and the things we say.

How often do we stop and measure what we are about to say before we rush headlong into saying it without thought of the consequences.

Has life always been measured or depending on your social standing, not measured at all? Are we either highly valued or of no value?

Do we measure ourselves only by comparing ourselves to others? I envy your attitude, your ability to remain positive in the face of adversity. What a measured put-down and denial of our own measure.

Just check out social media if you are unsure of how you measure yourself. To what extent is our success, popularity and acceptance measured by the number of likes, shares, followers and retweets achieved?

What does ‘Measure’ mean to you?

A wish from me to you!

20181222_015059

This Christmas “… I wish you joy and happiness

But above all this I wish you love”

(Whitney Houston)

Thank you to all my wonderful blogging family for your company over the past twelve months.  I’ve got to know so many amazing friends!  I’ve really enjoyed your comments and I can’t say loud enough, how much I appreciate your encouragement and engaging conversations!

“I Will Always Love You”

No.1 in December, 1992.

20181222_204807

(originally by Dolly Parton)

(from “The Bodyguard” soundtrack)

If I should stay

I would only be in your way

So I’ll go but I know

I’ll think of you every step of the way

And I… will always love you, ooh

Will always love you

You

My darling, you…

Mmm-mm

Bittersweet memories –

That is all I’m taking with me.

So good-bye.

Please don’t cry:

We both know I’m not what you, you need

And I… will always love you

I… will always love you

You, ooh

[Instrumental / Sax solo]

I hope life treats you kind

And I hope you have all you’ve dreamed of

And I wish you joy and happiness

But above all this I wish you love

And I… will always love you

I will always love you

I will always love you

I will always love you

I will always love you

I, I will always love you.

You.

Darling, I love you.

I’ll always…

I’ll always love you.

Ooh

Ooh

Just One Minute Monday… Child-self!

20180907_154108
Your Child-self helped create your present picture, how you choose to fill the shelf now is up to a very capable you!

Consider your inner child… your child-self that has got you to where you are today, through the good and the bad!

It’s time to show your child-self the love and appreciation they deserve.  Shower them with an abundance of love at every opportunity. Listen to them when they are sad or angry, they have an important message they want you to hear.  Be gentle and kind in how you talk to and treat yourself… this impacts your child-self.  Encourage your child-self to relax, to make time for fun and leave their worries about your future in your capable adult hands.

Now just sit back, be patient and watch yourself flourish!

Much love,

Marie xx

Sing your ‘Song’!

via Daily Prompt: Song

I’m always amazed by the talent and creativity of song writers.  They have the ability to lift our spirits and transport us to the most amazing and far away places without leaving the confines of our kitchen or car.  Their lyrics tell inspiring stories that teach us a wide variety of lessons.

Bloggers also have the power to lift others with their words.  When we write from our hearts we can say something that speaks to others.  It can resonate with what somebody is experiencing at that very moment.  When we take a few moments to comment on someone’s blog, to compliment a wonderful post or share words of encouragement we can have a positive impact on somebody else’s life. I believe we can provide the motivation somebody needed just at that very moment. Maybe it can be the song their heart needed to hear!

I know one thing for sure, your comments and feedback often makes my heart sing… such as,

“That’s an amazing story! Inspiring!”

…thank you Proftombot

Or

“You know what I think Marie? I am glad you are in the club, because not only can you share what you love, but you embody love and kindness, which might pass to one person. Hugs my friend.”

…thank you Donna @ https://windkisses.com

Or

Marie, I love how you write “My illness does not define me as a person.” So powerful. And empowering! The way you share your challenges, gives me perspective about my own. You are teaching us all. And for that, I will always be grateful. (This is who you are! A teacher. A writer. A muse.) Andrea xo

…thank you Dr.Andrea Dinardo, Thriving Under Pressure

Or

I’ve also found that blogging has boosted my confidence in my writing ability, and connected me to other terrific writers! Thanks for this post, I think it spoke to many of us!

..thank you Ann Coleman

@ muddlingthroughmymiddleage.com

And to all of you who take time to read, like and share encouraging comments…thank you!

And above all continue to sing your song among the blogging community and beyond!

A Blogger Nomination…or not!

I was recently nominated for a blogger award by the fun loving Shelley at Quaint Revival Here and just a day or two ago I was nominated for another blogger award by the warm and wonderful Darren at Arty Plantsman. Here

Now I’m not sure if it’s part of my fibromyalgia/fatigue that causes me to struggle and become overwhelmed by the list of rules and the mountain of work involved in a blogger award or if it’s something that is the case for more of you bloggers?  So while I want to acknowledge the nominations even though I’m breaking the rules a little by responding yet not responding to these blogger awards; what really mattered to me was how Darren at Arty Plantsman introduced my blog and the reason why he nominated me…

Basically his words mattered to me and I’d like to share them…”Marie from Create Space has shown a great deal of insight and understanding of my journey and is always such a lovely and supportive friend. We are close to each other in age and share much of our outlook. Marie quite recently took a leap of faith and changed careers, becoming an adult education teacher. Many of the things she writes speak volumes to me about what a great teacher she must be. Her warmth, intelligence and understanding shine out.”

… Now if you told me over a year ago that by becoming a blogger I would gain new insights not only about myself but also about the lives of so many other bloggers and that my life could be enhanced in so many ways…I’d never have believed it!!  But now I know that… blogging changes lives!

So thank you Darren, for being unique, creative and sincere! Thanks for being someone who has overcome difficulties and now is not afraid to take on new challenges and give old challenges a second go; read about Darren and resilience at its best here

He shares his talents and insights alike, with an infectious sense of humour!

The ‘Growing Self Blogger Award’ is the brainchild of Roda at ‘Growing Self’.  Roda is a connector and her blog is filled with amazing photos, critters, flowers, colours and warm words which encourage self kindness, growth and personal development!  Check out her positive and engaging blog Growing Self Here

And here are a few great blogs you might like to check out:

Susanbriscoe at The Death Project…Susan and Roy are powerful, they celebrate life…facing death positively and fearlessly! Here

Brenda at Brenda’s Thoughts…celebrates humanity. In her words “I’ve seen the very worst of humanity, but I have also seen beauty.”  She really engages with her followers and her comments are like finding a sister you didn’t know about up until now! Here

Alyssa at Fight Ms Daily…celebrates life with the challenges of MS…she is a reminder that no matter how difficult a day is there is always a ray of hope and her kind and affirming words to be found! Here

T.S. at CrazyWriterof6…celebrates challenge…proof that moving forward with resilience is possible! Here

And finally thanks to all of you for blogging and sharing…keep writing…keep inspiring!

Much love,

Marie xx

Ps. I received a likes notification… Out of curiosity can anyone tell me why 1337 likes is a figure that should be celebrated?  I got and expected a 1,000 likes notification… but why such a random figure?

Real People!

Image result for Beaumont Hospital Dublin

When we affirm someone…we celebrate them and today I affirm the staff of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. I want to celebrate the staff and their realness!

Today I travelled with my 71 year old mother to her routine three monthly kidney transplant patient clinic. Mum has been attending hospital in Dublin, 170 km from home for 43 years now.

Thanks to the selfless decision and action of a donor’s family, my mum has been in my life 17 years longer (depending on your unique belief system), than God/the Universe or fate meant her to be.

Today was no different than any other visit;
We encountered people… real people at every stage of her appointment!

We met people… people who put their lives on hold to support the lives of others;

We met the pleasant clinic receptionist who used mum’s first name,

We met the blood clinic nursing staff who know the importance of being gentle,

Mum met the nurse who made small talk and laughed with her as she ran the routine pre-clinic checks,

We met the smiling young Junior Doctor, up since 6.30am who tells us she rarely has breakfast because an extra half hour in bed is more enticing and what I saw was a lovely young doctor who was just herself and it is so refreshing!

We met the Registrar or Senior Doctor, who patiently checked the work of the lovely young Junior Doctor and informed us of the next recommended steps while she acknowledged mum’s long connection to the clinic and wished her continued health.

These are all people worth celebrating. People who celebrate the lives of other people and who themselves deserve to be affirmed!

Who have you affirmed lately?  Who do you celebrate?  Or who will you celebrate today?

Much love,

Marie xx
